karena gue lagi males nulis pake bahasa inggris, jadi gue nulis pake bahasa indonesia aja, kebetulan orang indonesia banyak yang ngisi guestbook ini.

sedikit curhat,
... dulu, waktu gue pertama kali pengen mendalami ilmu gitar gue, gue berpikir bahwa gue sebenarnya udah banyak tau tentang gitaris gitaris hebat.( so' ngerti lah bahasa kasarnya ) tapi suatu waktu ( waktu itu gue masih sma kelas 1, sekarang gue udah kuliah sem 3 ), gue ditanya sama temen gue, "eh, gitaris favoritlo sekarang ini siapa ?", kata dia . trus gue jawab " steve vai "
trus dia nanya lagi, " lo tau paul gilbert ngga ?"
dengan rasa malu gue jawab " ngga tuh " ( waktu itu emang gue bener bener ngga tau ), trus dia ngomong " ah payah luh, katanya gitaris.. masa paul gilbert aja ngga tau ".

setelah kejadian itu, gue niat untuk cari tau siapa sebenarnya paul gilbert itu. kemudian gue tanya sana tanya sini, ternyata paul gilbert adalah gitaris mr.big ( dulu ), trus gue dengerin lagu2 mr.big, meskipun waktu itu gue ngga seneng lagu2 kaya' mr.big, bahkan pernah suatu saat gue nyela temen gue karena dia tiap hari dengerin mr.big melulu.
setiap hari gue paksain supaya gue suka ama lagu2 mr.big, dan setelah beberapa minggu akhirnya gue suka juga. mulai saat itu gue mulai ngulik lagu2 mr.big meskipun dengan skill yang pas-pasan, karena gue percaya bahwa kerja keras akan membuahkan hasil, namun gue berpikir bahwa gue ngga akan bisa maju dengan mengandalkan otodidak, akhirnya gue les privat deket rumah, dan ternyata guru gue itu terus menerus ngasih gue metode pelajaran, yang baru sekarang gue tau kalo ternyata metode itu adalah metode pengajaran yang dilakukan paul gilbert. ternyata metode yang dikasih ama guru gue itu membuahkan hasil yang lumayan, kali ini setiap gue ngulik lagu lagu mr.big, bisa lah sedikit nyantol part part gitarnya. dari sini gue berpikir, kaya'nya ini deh tipe gitaris yang cocok gue jadiin influence.

dan sampe sekarang ini, gue udah nge-fans ama gilbert selama 3 tahun, emang masih terbilang sebentar, tapi cukup bagi gue untuk memahami arti dari sebuah sosok paul gilbert.

dan sekarang, gue ngga pernah nyesel kalo permainan paul banyak mendominasi perkembangan permainan gue, dan gue rasa gue ngga salah karena menempatkan paul gilbert sebagai gitaris favorit gue ( the one and only ). dan gue rasa juga banyak yang sependapat ama gue kalo mr.big cocok ditempatkan sebagai band nomor satu versi hardrock di seluruh jagad raya.

tulisan ini dibuat bukan untuk menyinggung siapapun, gue cuma pengen berbagi pengalaman ke para fans paul gilbert yang lainnya. jadi kalo ada kata-kata yang menyinggung ... cowwy cowwy aja yeee...

You're the best guitarist and my inspiration beside Satriani and Vai, I still remember when you came to Surabaya(Indonesia) for your Asian Clinic Tour and you'd played it amazingly. And one thing taht I couldn't forget in my life that I played guitar with you on one stage at that time, never cross in my fuckin' mind that finally I did it. Thank you very much Paul. By the way, why your albums not sale in Indonesia.

Hi Paul, well i must say i have listened to your music rather late as a guitarist, but now i'm hooked, what a player you are. i play electric guitar as well and i am into the faast stuff, and you are really fast! how long did it take you to develop that much speed and accuracy? i know its down to persistant practice, i myself have developed quite a bit of speed, but what drives you to being possibly the fastest i have heard?
my other favourites are steve vai and yngwie malmsteen, who through my likings to classical music remains my favourite guitar player.
who influenced you, because i know yngwie malmsteen set off a big trend in the 80's with his fast neo-classical playing, did he influence you in any way?

PAUL GILBERT ASIAN CLINIC TOUR 2000

Paul Gilbert (ex member of Mr. Big, now back to his former band Racer X) doing three guitar clinic shows in Indonesia. First show was in LAGA Pub & Restaurant,Bandung on 06/16/2000. Second show was at Hard Rock Cafe, Jakarta on 06/17/2000 and the last show was at Java Jimmy's Irish Pub, Surabaya.

I and my brother was lucky to see PG on stage at hard Rock Cafe. The show was great. PG played one and a half hour of performance, including jamming with six local guitarists (one was Edo, guitarists of Voodoo, a local rock group). PG introduced new series of Ibanez guitars and Laney amps.

The show itself was great. PG showed the audiences with many guitar techniques,like tapping, distortion, and how to end up a solo guitar. One unique technique is placing tape under the guitar body, so that it could stick at PG's thigh when doing a solo guitar.

PG played several songs from his solo albums and Racer X albums. like 'Streetlite','Down to Mexico', and 'Double Trouble'. He also played Spice Girls' '2 Become 1'and sang on this song. It was a great job. Unfortunately, PG did not play Mr. Big's 'Green Tinted Smile', which was expected by the audiences. Well, hope PG will came back to Indonesia with racer X and tour to several cities in Indonesia like Mr. Big did.
